Hi Miss Kroese,
Thanks for the kind word and encouragement. I did look at the links on Uganda and oh yes that is history in the making. No reason kids from this community should not bring home Phds if they so wish. Am so proud of hardworking and innovative people in this disadvantaged continent. With Solar and Wind power gaining popularity(affordability), i am beginning so see the Garden Of Aden right in my background. We are so blessed. With will comes way. BTW i sell a lot of West African Shea Butter in my regular line of work. When i get a chance, i will compare the Uganda to it. Come to think of it, i need to talk to you! Juggling is how things a beginning to feel.
Glad i joined this network. Let's hope we can uplift each other.

Hi Miss. Kroese. Due to the the fact that our organization is at it's infancy stage, i am not very much at liberty to share our model or even goals. Suffice is to say we are working on extracting butter from a very common tree growing naturally in Central and Eastern Kenya. It is the Shea butter/nut equivalent. No one has done this and until our framework is in place, we cannot share the whole picture. Am so sorry i have to be vague. This plant's seeds germinate and grow on minimal soil ingredients and zero chemicals. Birds love it thus spread the seed all around just as in coffee. There is potential of growing it as a crop and it matures quite fast. The tree is currently used by almost all farmers in these regions with little to no regard to those nuts on it. As kids we ate these nuts too. Not tasty although am sure they have good nutrients.

Dear Edith, Compliments of the season and Happy New Year!
Thank you very much for your comment. I would be pleased to meet you again and to discuss feasible ways of cooperation. Next week I am rather busy and thereafter I will be travelling to Zambia for two weeks. Bearing this in mind I would be pleased if we could meet during the third week of February 15.-18.02.2010. Have a pleasant day, Olaf

Hi Edith, yes, this explains much and yes, might be a good idea to make that more explicitly known. How to pull in more organizations from the south? I really look forward to discussing the whole progresso concept in more detail with you or Angel mario. When are we starting to talk about a producer organization? From which level of responsibility? The KNCU's are not that numerous in our side of the world which doesn't mean that nothing should be done to strengthen the existing organizations/groups. ESCO the company that i work with is working with 5000 farmers and at the end of the year maybe 8000 but few of them are grouped. I will listen around in Uganda. What about the KCU, any contact with them?

I just spent three days talking about the fisheries in lake Victoria. What about the Beach management units? They represent the population active in the fishery in the field. Actually a very complex but interesting group to work with. Another issue might be the internet access. Anyway, a lot of food for discussion. take care

groeten

Bart
