We are interested to learn how to expand our locally succesfull concept on a global scale so more teenage photographers can earn their own education by taking pictures for FairMail

FairMail: Cards with Perspective!

FairMail is a company producing fair-trade greeting cards in Peru and India.

The photos on FairMail cards are taken by Indian and Peruvian underprivileged teenagers. On the backside of every card you see the face, name and age of the photographer. FairMail offers this youth photography training, part-time work, medical insurance and guidance in making their future plans. The teenagers get 50 % of the profits of the sale of their own cards to finance their housing and education.

FairMail is fair trade certified by the Dutch Association of Worldshops

FairMail is first prize winner of the Business in Development Challenge 2006

FairMail cards are printed on FSC certified paper

FairMail nominated for Dutch Card Awards!

We are very proud to let you know that FairMail has been nominated for the Dutch Card Awards: the most important prize in the Dutch greeting card industry.



FairMail made it to the last three in the category: “Most innovative card concept”. In total there where 85 entries for the Dutch Card Awards.

Record Earnings for FairMail teenagers!

With the export of 100.000 new cards to the Netherlands, FairMail’s teenage photographer acheived record earnings over the past months.



In total FairMail’s 27 teenage photographers earned more then 7.500 euro’s in education money, packaging wage and health insurance. In average the teenagers in Peru earned 32% more then the local fair trade liveable wage and the Indian teenagers even 252% more the the local fair trade liveable wage! Record earnings for FairMail teenagers!

With the sale of their cards the teenagers in Peru have earned more then 11.000 euros last year. This figure was drawn from the profit calculations in January 2009. The teenagers each receive 50% of the profit from their cards and photographs, which in 2009 came to a total of 9.234 euro. Apart from that they also earned 797 euro packing their cards en 1.200 euro in medical insurance for them and their family. In total 11.231 euro, more than double compared to 2007. FairMail hits India too!

Rumors had been going round for quite a while, but now it is official: FairMail India opens its doors to teenagers of the suburb of Nagwa in the city of Varanasi in February 2009. This city is the cultural capital of India with its many ghats along the holy Ganges river. The ideal place for FairMail to suplement its card stock with cards with typical Indian images.
